ASUU Accuses Gombe, Plateau of Ignoring 2025 Agreement, Warns of Possible Industrial Action

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Bauchi Zone, has accused the Gombe and Plateau State governments of failing to implement the 2025 agreement reached between the union and the Federal Government, warning that the situation could lead to industrial unrest in the affected universities.

Speaking at a press conference held at Gombe State University on Thursday, the ASUU Bauchi Zonal Coordinator, Timothy-Aku Namo, said the governments of Gombe and Plateau had yet to implement the provisions of the agreement despite commitments made on December 23, 2025.

Namo explained that although the Federal Government later released funds for the salary component of the agreement and established an implementation monitoring committee, many state governments had failed to fulfil their obligations.

According to him, some state governments have argued that the agreement was signed solely between the Federal Government and ASUU, a position the union rejects.

He revealed that a forensic audit conducted by ASUU’s National Executive Council on June 21, 2026, showed that only Sa’adu Zungur University in Bauchi State and Ekiti State University had implemented the agreement among the state-owned universities reviewed.

Namo added that, beyond the unresolved agreement, both Gombe State University and Plateau State University are facing other outstanding staff welfare issues that continue to threaten industrial harmony.

He appealed to the visitors of the two universities to urgently intervene and ensure the implementation of the agreement to prevent another round of industrial action.
