The Bauchi State caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected moves to admit Governor Bala Mohammed into the party.
The decision was announced after a caucus meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday night.
Reports had earlier suggested that Governor Mohammed was considering leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with initial plans to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on March 31, 2026. However, his meeting with APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, sparked speculation about a possible switch to the ruling party instead.
Speaking after the meeting, Senator Sama’ila Dahuwa, who represents Bauchi North Senatorial District and chairs the APC caucus in the state, said members unanimously opposed the governor’s proposed entry into the party.
According to him, the caucus, after thorough deliberation, “unequivocally rejects” the move, warning that admitting Mohammed at this time could harm the party’s unity, credibility, and electoral chances in Bauchi State.
Amid the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP, Governor Mohammed has been weighing options of defecting either to the APC or the ADC.
