Former Edo State governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata, has revealed that he and former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, were separately warned of a possible attack prior to the recent violence in the state.
Akpata made the disclosure on Politics Today on Channels Television on Wednesday, stating that credible sources had informed both men that the venue of their political engagement in Benin City could soon be targeted by unidentified individuals.
According to him, the incident occurred during a political meeting attended by former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, as well as leaders of the African Democratic Congress.
Akpata rejected suggestions that the unrest was orchestrated by a faction within the ADC, describing such claims as baseless and illogical. He maintained that attributing the violence to internal party divisions was misleading.
Expressing worry over developments in Edo State, Akpata warned that the unfolding events signal a troubling threat to democratic governance in the state.
