Abducted Chief Imam of Uromi regains freedom

The Chief Imam of Uromi, Moritada Obhakhoboh, who was abducted earlier this month has regained freedom.

The Edo State Police Command confirmed the release on Tuesday, July 15, adding that his freedom was secured as a result of sustained pressure mounted by its operatives.

According to an official statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, Obhakhoboh regained his freedom on July 13, 2025, six days after he was kidnapped in the Angle 80 area of Uromi.

The incident, which occurred on July 7, was reported to the Uromi Divisional Police Headquarters the following day.

“The kidnapping occurred on 7th July 2025 at the Angle 80 area of Uromi and was reported to the Uromi Divisional Police Headquarters on 8th July 2025,” Yamu said.

He also explained that the Command responded swiftly by deploying tactical units and working closely with local vigilantes to locate the victim and identify the kidnappers.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Command immediately launched a robust manhunt for the perpetrators, deploying tactical teams and collaborating with local vigilantes to track down the assailants with a view to rescuing the victim unhurt and bringing the culprits to justice,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication during the rescue mission.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and vowed to bring those responsible for the abduction to justice.

He also appealed to residents to remain alert and continue supporting security agencies with useful information, stressing that community cooperation is vital in the fight against crime.
