Senator Chimaruoke Nnamani have come under the heat of a coalition of Youths in Enugu State under the umbrella of Enugu Youths in defense of Democracy over an interview where he was quoted as saying in a national daily that ‘Governors has the right to produce their successors’, describing him as anti-democrat.
In an emergency meeting in Enugu yesterday, the leader of the group, Comrade Sunday Ede described Senator Nnamani as a despot who terrorized Enugu State for Eight years as a governor and wasted hundreds of youths.
According to Ede, ‘this is a man who brought thuggery into our political system and wasted our youths. He is not a democrat; his other name is Mr. Impunity.’
The Youth Leader remind Senator Nnamani that gone are the days when the youths are easily deceived to work as thugs to destabilize an orderly way of doing things adding that the normal thing in a democracy is for candidates to present , market their programs and allow the people to make their choice stressing that any other way outside this is anti-democracy.
Comrade Ede maintained that the youths are waiting to mobilize over one million youths across the state against any single individual who attempts to arrogate to himself the constitutional powers of the people stressing that Senator Nnamani is leaving in the past.
‘After suffering the people of Enugu State and squandering our opportunities, he thinks he can wake up from slumber and take us back to the dark ages. He needs a mental examination.’ he said.
Also speaking, the Secretary General of the Coalition of youths, Comrade Donatus Uzoh maintained that Senator Nnamani have lost touch with the realities on ground stressing that it is very unfortunate that the Senator thinks that Enugu State is still in the valley he left it.
He warmed that Senator Nnamani should not remind the people of Enugu State of the bad old days of his regime of darkness where terror, intimidation, killings and maiming reigned supreme and advised Gov. Ugwuanyi to stay away from Senator Nnamani if he still wants Enugu State to remain in the hand of God.
Finally, the youths vowed that it will not be business as usual stressing that power belongs to the people and cautioned that any contestant that is not ready to avail the people his programmes and defend it should not contest.
According to him ‘Power belongs to the people and so shall it be. It is no longer business as usual. Nobody will be allowed to arrogate to himself the constitutional powers of the people to choose their leader.’ he concluded
