Why are criminals the priority of the state? – Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour questions presidential pardon granted to 70 convicted drug lords

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour party candidate in the Lagos state governorship election in 2023 has condemned the presidential pardon granted to 70 convicted drug lords.

Last week, the presidency granted 175 convicted criminals presidential pardon, an action that has been widely condemned.

In a post shared on X handle, GRV stated that drug trafficking has destroyed the lives of many youths in Lagos state. He wondered how the convicted criminals have so much connection to secure a presidential pardon.

His post reads

‘’The drug crisis ravaging the youths of Lagos is a tragedy that is actively tearing families apart and wasting away the future of our youth. Those recently granted presidential pardons were not innocent victims ( mules) or mere users, they were drug pushers and dealers, profiting from the misery of our people.

How is it that those fueling this drug epidemic have such powerful connections to the president or the presidency to be able to secure 1/3rd of the presidential pardons? Why are these particular set of criminals the priority of the state?
