American rapper Taymor McIntyre, better known as Tay-K, has been convicted of murder for a second time after a jury found him guilty in the 2017 fatal shooting of Mark Anthony Saldivar in San Antonio, Texas.
The 23-year-old victim was reportedly shot by Tay-K during an attempted robbery. The rapper now faces life imprisonment with the possibility of parole.
Tay-K is already serving a 55-year prison sentence for his role in a separate deadly home invasion that occurred earlier in 2016, when he was just 16 years old.
During the trial, prosecutors claimed Tay-K deliberately shot Saldivar after attempting to rob him. However, the defense criticized the investigation, arguing that it relied heavily on unverified and biased witness accounts.
“Taymor McIntyre is not guilty of capital murder, murder, or manslaughter,” said defense attorney John Hunter in his closing arguments. “You have to do it right. You have to do the work. And this case clearly demonstrates the work wasn’t done.”
While the jury acquitted him of capital murder—which would have carried a life sentence without parole—they found him guilty of murder. The court will now proceed to the sentencing phase to determine his punishment.
