Tottenham Hotspur players have decided to refund fans the cost of their match tickets after their 6-1 humiliating defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday.
Spurs were 5-0 down after 21 minutes of the game which led to interim manager Cristian Stellini been sacked by the club.
A statement from the players said: “As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger.“It wasn’t good enough.
We know words aren’t enough in situations like this but a defeat like this hurts.”
Spurs’ allocation for the game was around 3,209, with prices ranging from £19 to £30, meaning the gesture is likely to have cost around £80,000.
The club said supporters were expected to receive the refund in their bank accounts within 24 hours.
