South African giants renew interest in Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali

South African club, Kaizer Chiefs F.C. have reportedly revived their interest in signing Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

The Soweto-based club had previously monitored the shot-stopper during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he delivered impressive performances for Nigeria National Football Team, helping the team secure a third-place finish at the tournament.

Since leaving Chippa United F.C. earlier this year, the 29-year-old has remained a free agent, making him an attractive transfer target. Reports indicate that Kaizer Chiefs have now submitted an offer to secure his services on a permanent deal.

Nwabali has built a strong reputation in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and internationally for his commanding presence, quick reflexes and composure under pressure, earning recognition as one of Nigeria’s most reliable goalkeepers in recent years.

Chiefs are currently focused on rebuilding their squad to compete at the top level of South African football. Nwabali’s experience and leadership qualities are seen as potential assets for a defensive line that has struggled with consistency.

The renewed transfer interest comes amid uncertainty surrounding Chiefs’ first-choice goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, who recently underwent an appendectomy after falling ill earlier in the week. His recovery period is expected to take several weeks, leaving the club to rely on backup options during his absence.

During Petersen’s absence, goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma featured in the recent Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates F.C., a match Kaizer Chiefs lost 3-0, leaving them further behind in the Betway Premiership title race.
