Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has claimed that his once-close relationship with Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy fell apart after false rumours alleged he had an affair with Burna Boy’s girlfriend.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, Shatta Wale said he warmly welcomed Burna Boy during his visit to Ghana by providing accommodation, cars and other support to ensure he had a comfortable stay.
According to the singer, the friendship deteriorated after he parted ways with some members of his team, whom he accused of spreading false stories to influential people in his life.
“They told Burna Boy that I was sleeping with the girl he brought to Ghana. He just believed it,” Shatta Wale alleged.
He further claimed that after Burna Boy’s career gained global momentum, several attempts to reach him through calls and messages were unsuccessful.
Shatta Wale said he also contacted Burna Boy’s mother and manager, Bose Ogulu, but was only given reasons why the singer could not respond.
Despite the fallout, the Ghanaian artiste said he is happy about Burna Boy’s global success but remains disappointed that he was never given the opportunity to clear the air over what he described as false accusations.
