“School management should pity parents” — Nigerian dad cries out over endless secondary school graduation expenses

A Nigerian father has gone viral after expressing deep frustration over the never-ending demands placed on parents by secondary school managements — especially during graduation season.

In a heartfelt video, the man passionately called out school authorities, pleading with them to consider the economic hardship currently affecting families across the country.

Speaking partly in English and his local dialect, the father said:

“How many times person go graduate? This one na just secondary school! They’re doing graduation as if it’s university convocation. It’s too much.”

He lamented that aside from the normal school fees and PTA dues, parents are now being charged for graduation gowns, chairs, food, decoration, and photography — all for a secondary school graduation.

“School owners, please have mercy. Graduation here, graduation there. Some of us are barely surviving. We’re still managing school fees, now we must pay for souvenirs and party packs too?” he said.

The emotional video struck a chord with many Nigerians online, especially parents who have found themselves spending tens of thousands of naira just to mark the end of JSS 3 or SS3.

He ended the video by begging school owners to “pity parents” and stop turning every graduation into a full-blown ceremony.

“Madam principal, abeg help us. Na secondary school o, no be PhD!”
