“Revolutionising Healthcare Education: FUAHSE Charts Bold Path to Produce Nigeria’s Next Generation of Medical Innovators”

The Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu (FUAHSE) has reiterated its determination to redefine healthcare education in Nigeria through a strategic blend of specialised training, innovation, and rapid infrastructure development.

This commitment was reaffirmed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor John Emaimo, during a press briefing and facility tour at the university’s campus in Enugu. He described the institution as a product of resilience and visionary leadership, purposefully designed to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare delivery system.

Addressing journalists at the event themed “From Legacy to Leadership: FUAHSE Opens Its Doors to the Future of Healthcare in Nigeria,” Professor Emaimo highlighted the university’s remarkable transformation since its establishment in 2023. He noted that the institution evolved from a diploma-awarding dental college into a full-fledged specialised university following presidential approval for its conversion.

According to him, FUAHSE is uniquely positioned to produce healthcare professionals who are not only academically sound but also practically equipped to meet the increasing demands of Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

The Vice Chancellor disclosed that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved sixteen core academic programmes cutting across Clinical Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Public Health, Allied Sciences, Engineering, and Technology. Key programmes include Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Dental Technology, Physiotherapy, Public Health, and Biomedical Engineering.

In a forward-looking move, Professor Emaimo revealed that the institution has also secured approval for eleven additional degree programmes, including Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence, and Software Engineering. He explained that these programmes are designed to position graduates at the convergence of healthcare and modern technological innovation.

Emphasising the institution’s educational philosophy, the Vice Chancellor stressed that FUAHSE prioritises hands-on and practical learning, ensuring that students can seamlessly transition from academic environments into real-world healthcare practice.

He further outlined ongoing infrastructural developments within the university, including a 1,000-seat auditorium, a modern library, and a state-of-the-art ICT complex aimed at enhancing teaching, learning, and research capabilities.

Despite acknowledging the financial and infrastructural challenges typical of new institutions, Professor Emaimo maintained that the university remains firmly committed to its vision of becoming a world-class centre for healthcare education and research.

He added that FUAHSE’s mission aligns with national priorities to address the critical shortage of healthcare manpower by producing highly skilled professionals within a short period.

Professor Emaimo also commended the media for its role in amplifying the university’s vision, noting that the visit coincided with pre-matriculation activities ahead of the formal admission of the institution’s second batch of students, scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026.

With its bold vision and strategic direction, FUAHSE is steadily positioning itself as a cornerstone in Nigeria’s journey toward a more robust and innovative healthcare system.
