The Rector of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, Prof. Gozie Ogbodo , has marked his one year in office with a glowing account of transformation, innovation, and institutional renewal, describing the past year as a turning point in IMT’s journey toward excellence and sustainability.
Speaking during a ceremony held to commemorate his first anniversary in office, which also featured the commissioning of landmark projects across the campus, Prof. Ogbodo expressed profound gratitude to God, the IMT community, and the Enugu State Government for their collective effort and unwavering faith in the vision of “The New IMT.”
According to him, his administration’s one-year journey has been guided by a clear mission—to strengthen the foundations of academic excellence, promote innovation, enhance staff and students’ welfare, and reposition IMT as a model of integrity, productivity, and discipline in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s education reform agenda.
Highlighting one of the institution’s major milestones, the Rector announced that IMT recorded a 100 percent success rate in the recent accreditation, re-accreditation, and resource verification exercise conducted by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). He described the feat as a “testament to the collective commitment, resilience, and excellence” of the entire IMT community.
Prof. Ogbodo attributed these achievements to the dedication of staff, the cooperation of students, and the consistent support of the Enugu State Government under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whom he described as “the pillar of IMT’s transformation and a visionary leader redefining education and governance standards.”
“We owe deep gratitude to His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose reforms and commitment to education have given IMT the strength and confidence to excel,” Prof. Ogbodo stated. “The governor’s vision for a knowledge-driven economy continues to inspire our progress and results.”
He listed notable strides in infrastructure and academic development, including the renovation of classrooms, laboratories, and administrative blocks to create a more conducive environment for learning and research.
Prof. Ogbodo also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the “One Diploma, One Skill” policy, which ensures that every IMT student graduates with both an academic qualification and a vocational skill, thereby addressing unemployment and promoting entrepreneurship.
In a bid to boost the institution’s internally generated revenue, the Rector unveiled IMT Enterprises Limited, a new initiative designed to strengthen IMT’s financial base. Through this venture, the school has successfully launched several innovative products and services such as IMT Bread, IMT Water, IMT Tissue, and the commercialization of IMT Water Tankers and Tractors.
He described these ventures as “learning laboratories” that bridge theory and practice, allowing students to gain real-world production and business experience while contributing to the institution’s financial sustainability.
Commending the management team, staff, and students for their shared vision and hard work, Prof. Ogbodo pledged that the next phase of his leadership would focus on deeper research integration, technological advancement, and the aesthetic transformation of the campus.
“The new IMT will not only be known for academic excellence but also for its aesthetic and environmental beauty,” he said. “We shall make our environment speak—with artworks, clean surroundings, green spaces, and structures that inspire learning and pride.”
He called on all members of the IMT community to uphold integrity, unity, and discipline, noting that the vision of a truly transformed IMT could only be achieved through shared commitment and purpose.
“Together, we will build an IMT that shines not just in accreditation results but in culture, conduct, and character—a truly new IMT: beautiful, purposeful, and progressive,” he affirmed.
The event culminated in the commissioning of newly completed and renovated facilities across the campus, symbolizing a new era of growth, excellence, and sustainability under Prof. Ogbodo’s visionary leadership.
