Niger gov investigates commissioner, MD over condition of IBB Hospital

Niger State Governor, Abubakar Bello, says he is shocked over the dilapidated condition of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Hospital, Minna.

This is as the governor stated that the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Mohammed Makusidi; and the hospital’s Medical Director, Dr. Isah Umar, would be investigated to ascertain how the funds meant for works in the hospital were used.

He expressed disappointment with the sanitary condition and other services at the hospital.

He disclosed this when he visited both the military and civilian victims of recent Kagara terrorist attack who were being treated in the facility.

Governor Bello also expressed dismay over the lack of functional dialysis machine out of 10 existing ones, despite the huge amount of money he said his administration had spent on what was supposed to be a complete renovation of the hospital a few years ago.

The governor further directed the commissioner of finance to immediately release funds for the repairs of the dialysis machines for the treatment of those with kidney related problems.

“I am not only disappointed, but I am angry, extremely angry with the situation of the hospital. A lot of money was spent to renovate the entire hospital and replace almost everything.

“Something is fundamentally wrong. Obviously, we have a commissioner and head of the hospital;someone is not doing his or her job and this is subject to our investigation,” he stated.

Our correspondent reports that, over the years, the hospital could not access any overhead cost to ensure maintenance and the situation had resulted in unnecessary charges of patients.
