Mbappe’s Decisive Penalty Sends France Past Paraguay Into World Cup Quarter-Finals

Kylian Mbappe’s penalty in the second half proved to be the winner, as France defeated Paraguay 1-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.

The first half had ended goalless as Les Bleus failed to break down their opponents.

But after the break, Desire Doue has fouled inside the area and a spot-kick was awarded.

Mbappe stepped up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and give France the lead.

They will now face Morocco in the quarter-finals of the competition.

The Atlas Lions claimed a 3-0 win over co-hosts Canada earlier in the day, to ensure they play in the last eight for a second consecutive tournament.
