Ademola Lookman made history on Sunday by scoring in his debut LaLiga Madrid derby for Atlético Madrid against Real Madrid.
The Nigerian international became the eighth Atlético player in the 21st century to score in his first derby appearance and the first since Luciano Vietto achieved the feat in October 2015 during a 1–1 draw at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Lookman also set another milestone by becoming the first Nigerian ever to score in a Madrid derby.
The forward opened the scoring in the 33rd minute after an impressive attacking move, driving into the box and finishing calmly following a clever backheel assist from Giuliano Simeone. His goal gave Diego Simeone’s side a 1–0 lead at halftime.
However, Real Madrid came back strongly in the second half, scoring three goals to secure victory. A stunning long-range effort from Nahuel Molina briefly leveled the score, but a brace from Vinicius Junior and a goal from Federico Valverde ensured the hosts emerged triumphant at home.
