“Labour Party Celebrates Democracy: Smooth Congresses Across 35 States Spark Optimism”

The National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, Julius Abure, has applauded the outcome of the party’s congresses held across 35 states of the federation as new leaders emerge.
Abure, while commending the outcome of the congresses, said internal democracy came into play as party members were given a free hand to choose their leaders without any form of interference.

Abure said that from Tuesday, when the ward Congress commenced, until Saturday, the party has not received any negative reports from the National monitoring team.
In a statement by LP’s spokesman, Obiora Ifoh, Abure said the exercise, which was also monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the security agencies, was applauded as one of the most transparent Congresses in Nigeria.
“We are happy that the party leaders across the state complied with all the laid down rules by ensuring that only the choice of the party members emerged across all levels of our leadership. This Congress was actually used to test run the reforms this leadership introduced and we are happy that it worked.
“Under my leadership, we have insisted that no individual will be bigger than the party, and everyone who has subscribed to be a member of the party must submit to the party’s authority.

“Abia State was suspended from participating in the congresses because some persons working for the state government chose to obstruct the wheel of democracy by procuring a court injunction. However, as a law-abiding party, we have chosen to obey the order. We have also delegated our legal team to vacate the order as soon as practicable to enable us to hold our Congress in Abia state.

“There is no gainsaying that the Labour Party is ready for the 2027 general election as we have constructively put our challenges behind us.
“Nonetheless, we are calling on all our members to support all our newly elected executives in the states to ensure that we surpass our achievements in the last general election.”
