The former Deputy senate president , senator Ike Ekweremadu has said nigeria security architecture is sketchy and needs the creation of state police to address the security challenges facing the country .
The senator representing Enugu west Senatorial districts who was in Enugu for the inauguration of the DSS training center he built in Awgu and also the DSS office same at Awgu, executed by Rep. Toby Okechukwu the lawmaker representing Anniri/Awgu/Orji River Federal Constituency of the state decried the rising spate of killings and violence in the state
stating that “the Security Challenges in the country is already enormous and Enugu State cannot afford to engage in further acts of violence since the security apparatus of the state is already over stretched”
Adding that if there be a state police, all the security challenges will be over and there will be peace, there will be development, employments in the country.
According to him, every state doesn’t really need to start the state police at once, “those who can start, let them start then the federal govt can help those who can not do that to do that, in that way, everywhere will have sufficient security in Nigeria. And once we do that, there will be peace, there will be development, employments then all this challenges we are having will be over” He stated.
“The security architecture in Nigeria is sketchy, it has not been able to cover the entire space that is why we have so many on governs spaces in Nigeria and that why some of us are insisting on state police.

“What we have at the national level from the armed forces, to the paramilitary, and support agencies is certainly not enough to police a country as wide as Nigeria with the number of people we have
“To ensure the total safety of lives and properties in any part of this country today, there is the need for state police because of the rising spate of insecurity in the country today” he said.
The lawmaker, therefore, urged the Federal Government to heed to the public demand for the creation of state police just like other countries like Europe, America , Asia who discovered a long time ago and decentralized which made a complex arrangements of their security sector.
“Until we resolve our security challenge here,nothing will happen, no achievements, there will be no progress, no peace and the earlier we realize this and begin to increase the security arrangements we have in Nigeria, so that every home will be covered, every person will be covered and every properties will be covered , we will continue to have problems”
He also called on government at all levels and the security agencies to be proactive in their approach to ending the escalating security challenges.
Speaking on the projects by his NASS counterpart, Ekweremadu commended him for the successful completion of the DSS office at Awgu.

Earlier, Okechukwu said he was passionate about providing dividend of democracy to his constituents.
He said he would continue to attract projects that would have direct impact on the lives of the people.
It can be recalled, that southeast leaders had also backed the creation of state police during their last meeting in Enugu, where they pleaded with national assembly members from south east to please support the state creation of state police on the going constitutional amendments
