Governor Otti Unveils Plan to Save Aba River, Warns Polluting Firms

Abia State Governor has said that his administration has a comprehensive plan to dredge the Aba River to allow free flow of water.

He also said that any company found discharging its industrial waste into the River would face punishment for polluting the water.

Governor Otti, who was responding to a question from a reporter on the new Enyimba Hotel, at the Government House, Umuahia, said it was wrong for any company to discharge waste into a River where some people drink from.

“It is now an offense that is punishable. You must have a way to treat your waste.

“It is improper to discharge your waste into a flowing River when some people drink out of the River”, Otti said.

He explained that his administration had already engaged with a company that discharges its waste into the River about the consequences of their actions.
