Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved the state’s Executive Council, relieving all Commissioners of their duties.
The announcement was made at the conclusion of the 12th Executive Council meeting of 2025 and was confirmed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.
In a significant move following the dissolution, Governor Alia appointed Barr. Moses Atagher as the new Chief of Staff. A two-term former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Atagher is also a former Acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank. His appointment takes immediate effect.
Governor Alia expressed gratitude to the outgoing Commissioners for their two years of service and urged those not reappointed to remain active in the party, emphasizing the importance of giving others the opportunity to serve.
“This is simply creating room for others to contribute their quota to the development of the state,” the governor noted.
He clarified that the dissolution applies only to Commissioners and not to other cabinet positions.
Speaking on behalf of the dissolved council, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve, saying, “At every stage in life, everywhere you are called to serve is a school. We have learnt a lot while working with you.”
The former Commissioners have been directed to hand over responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries without delay.
