GOV MAKINDE,ORDERS RE-ARREST OF FLEEING SERIAL KILLER

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday asked the police to re-arrest Sunday Shodipe,  the suspect alleged to be involved in the series of murders in the Akinyele Local Government Area, who escaped from police custody in Ibadan on Saturday.

The governor, who was represented by the Special Adviser on Security, CP Fatai Owoseni (retd.), at a town hall meeting in the Akinyele LGA, said the re-arrest of the alleged mastermind of at least six ritual killings in Ibadan must be made a top priority of security operatives.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa, quoted Owoseni as saying, ““So, Governor Seyi Makinde has ensured that this gets to the hearing of the top echelon of the police, that is the Inspector General of Police. The governor and IGP have given the marching order to the Commissioner of Police and all his officers in Oyo State to work with the people in the community, so as to ensure that the suspect is rearrested; and ensure that all those cases are investigated to a logical conclusion.”

Meanwhile, the Oyo State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Security and Strategy to meet with the Commissioner of Police, Mr  Nwachukwu Enwonwu,  to  unravel the circumstances surrounding the escape of Shodipe.

It also asked the State Security Network Agency, codenamed Operation Amotekun, to expedite action in the ongoing recruitment of prospective corps into the security outfit.

The Assembly said that the police should urgently re-arrest the 19-year-old  suspect.

The Speaker of the assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin, “It is a pity that the police were careless in this case and  this incident is an embarrassment to the entire Nigeria Police Force.
