Stakeholders from Enugu East Senatorial District on Sunday declared their unanimous support for the re-election of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in 2027, describing his two years and three months in office as “phenomenal” and unprecedented in the history of the state.
The endorsement came during a town hall meeting held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, where leaders of thought, political figures across party lines, professionals, youth and women leaders, traditional rulers, presidents-general of town unions, market association leaders, and trade union representatives appraised the performance of the Mbah administration.
This affirmation comes amid speculations and mounting pressure on the governor to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, the stakeholders stated emphatically that ahead of 2027, Governor Mbah himself has become their “political party,” noting that his results in governance have overshadowed partisan considerations.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the stakeholders chronicled Mbah’s achievements across critical sectors, noting that he has not only kept his campaign promises but also exceeded the expectations of Ndi Enugu.
Highlights of the communiqué include:
Security: The construction of the Enugu Command and Control Centre with AI-embedded surveillance cameras, coupled with the establishment of a Distress Response Squad equipped with over 150 security vehicles, has made Enugu one of the safest states in Nigeria.
Education: Allocation of 33% of the state’s annual budget to education; commencement of 260 Smart Green Schools across the state’s 260 wards; and the transformation of the Government Technical School into a world-class TVET College commissioned by First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.
Healthcare: Construction of 260 Primary Healthcare Centres with staff quarters across all wards, alongside the massive upgrade of the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital.
Infrastructure and Economy: Completion and ongoing construction of over 1,000km of roads; revival of key state assets including Enugu United Palm Products Limited, Hotel Presidential, Nigergas Company, and Sunrise Flour Mills; and the launch of Enugu Air with new transport terminals and over 200 CNG mass transit buses.
Tourism and Aviation: Transformation of Nike Lake Resort Hotel through PPP, ongoing construction of the Enugu International Conference Centre 5-Star Hotel, and concessions secured for the completion of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport international terminal and cargo hub.
Agriculture: Establishment of 200-hectare farm estates in each ward, revitalisation of major irrigation systems at Adani, Ojor, and Mgbagbu Owa, and launch of a Tractor Assembly Plant and Livestock Productivity Centre.
The stakeholders concluded that Governor Mbah’s performance in just over two years has placed Enugu on a path of development not seen since the era of Dr. Michael Okpara, premier of the defunct Eastern Region.
“If he has done these great works in repositioning Enugu State in just two years, it is only left to imagination what the state would look like at the end of eight years of his administration,” the communiqué read.
They unanimously endorsed him for a second term in 2027, stressing that their support transcends political affiliations.
The leaders further appealed to stakeholders in Enugu North and Enugu West senatorial districts to reciprocate the political solidarity shown to them in previous election cycles by supporting Mbah’s re-election. They recalled how Enugu East refrained from contesting the governorship during the administrations of Sullivan Chime (2007–2015) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (2015–2023), in line with the zoning arrangement established by the state’s founding fathers.
Finally, the communiqué urged Ndi Enugu across all zones to continue to support Governor Mbah in the interest of peace, security, and rapid development, declaring:
“Our political party is Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, a performing governor who has shown that he has what it takes to take Enugu State to the pinnacle of glory where our founding fathers dreamt of.”
