Enugu APC Concludes Senatorial Primaries, Declares Ngwu, Chukwu, Asogwa as Winners

 

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has successfully concluded and officially announced the results of its Senatorial Primaries, marking yet another significant milestone in the party’s democratic journey toward strengthening internal democracy, unity, and purposeful leadership.
The official announcement ceremony, held in a dignified and peaceful atmosphere, brought together the senatorial aspirants from the three Senatorial Zones of the state, members of the Senate Primary Committee, the Enugu State APC Working Committee ably led by the State Chairman, Dr. Sir. Martin Chukwunweike (Ozoigbondu), members and aspirants of the House of Representatives, the Speaker and members of the State House of Assembly, Local Government Council Chairmen, party stakeholders, and other distinguished dignitaries from across the state.

In his opening remarks, the State Chairman of the APC in Enugu State, Dr. Sir Martin Chukwunweike (Ozoigbondu), warmly welcomed all government functionaries, party leaders, aspirants, and dignitaries present, describing the gathering as the formal conclusion of the rigorous senatorial primary process that had commenced the previous day.
He noted that the Senate Primaries Committee had diligently and painstakingly carried out a comprehensive collation of results to ensure credibility, transparency, and fairness in the entire exercise. He commended the committee for what he described as an excellent and professionally conducted primary election.
Dr. Chukwunweike further expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, for his exemplary, fatherly, and inclusive leadership style, which he said created the enabling environment for a peaceful, seamless, and successful senatorial primary process in the state. He added that the successful candidates would be officially presented with their Certificates of Return in line with party procedures.

In his address, the Chairman of the Senate Primary Committee, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, for his innovative, smart, and transformational governance, which has positively impacted political harmony and democratic stability within the state.
He further stated that he was highly impressed by the conduct, discipline, and maturity displayed by members of the party throughout the exercise, describing the entire process as harmonious, fair, transparent, and just.
Proceeding to the official declaration, the committee chairman announced that the results, collated from all wards and local government areas across the three senatorial districts, were as follows:

*Enugu West Senatorial Zone*
A sole contestant:
Sen. Engr. Osita Ngwu — 70,015 votes
*Declared Winner:* Sen. Engr. Osita Ngwu

*Enugu East Senatorial Zone*
*Total votes cast: 161,334*
Hon. Nnaji Shalom Nwakegwu — 482 votes
Sen. Kelvin Chukwu — 111,743 votes
*Declared Winner:* Sen. Kelvin Chukwu

*Enugu North Senatorial Zone*
*Total votes cast: 152,886*
Hon. Eze Chinazo F. — 782 votes
Hon. Edith Ngozi Ugwuanyi — 876 votes
Hon. Dr. Charles Ugwuanyi — 736 votes
Hon. Ikeje Asogwa — 125,089 votes
*Declared Winner:* Hon. Ikeje Asogwa

Following the declaration, the victorious candidates from the respective senatorial zones were officially declared winners and duly presented with their Certificates of Return, amidst applause and celebration from party faithfuls.
In his concluding remarks, the Chairman of the Senate Primary committee Rt. Hon. Funkekeme extended appreciation to the leader of the party in the state, Governor Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, the Deputy National Chairman of APC, Hon. Dr. Ben Nwoye, the Enugu State Working Committee led by Dr. Sir. Martin Chukwunweike (Ozoigbondu), and all party faithfuls across the state for their exemplary conduct, maturity, and commitment to peace throughout the exercise.
He also encouraged all contestants who were not successful to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, stressing that party unity remains paramount and urging all members to rally behind the successful candidates and the party’s collective vision for greater electoral success.

Speaking on behalf of the successful candidates, Sen. Engr. Osita Ngwu expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, for his outstanding leadership and statesmanship, which he noted made the entire primary process peaceful and seamless.
He also extended appreciation to the State Executive Committee, the Senate Primary Committee, the Deputy National Chairman, all Local Government Council Chairmen, Local Government Party Chairmen, Ward Chairmen, and all APC faithful across the state, assuring them that their collective support would never be taken for granted.

In a vote of thanks, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Chief Hon. Uche Obute (JP), commended Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah for what he described as his unwavering commitment to peace, equity, fairness, and justice in Enugu State, emphasizing that those values were visibly reflected in the successful conduct of the just-concluded senatorial primaries.
He also lauded members of the Enugu State Working Committee for their tireless efforts and steadfast commitment in steering the affairs of the party toward greater progress and cohesion.

The event concluded on a joyful and optimistic note, with party leaders, aspirants, and members exchanging warm congratulatory compliments, reaffirming their commitment to party unity, internal democracy, and victory in the forthcoming general elections.
