The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a lawsuit against the acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Jarret Tenebe, over the alleged forceful invasion and takeover of its secretariat located at No. 49, Airport Road, Benin City.
In a writ of summons dated February 14, 2025, and made public in Benin, the PDP is seeking over N900 million in damages. This includes N322 million as compensation for destroyed and carted-away office equipment, and N500 million as general damages for the unlawful eviction and trespass.
The PDP also requested N90 million for emergency office relocation costs at Etano Hotel and an additional N5 million per day from February 13 until judgment is delivered.
The party further asked the court to declare it as the rightful occupant of the property and to issue a perpetual injunction restraining Tenebe and his agents from trespassing or conducting any activity on the premises.
The suit stems from the events of January 16, 2025, when the PDP claims Tenebe and a group of thugs violently evicted its members and damaged property. The party argues this action breached its legal rights as a tenant under an existing lease agreement with the landlord, Mr. Ena Agbontan.
Among other prayers, the PDP seeks an official court order restoring its possession and peaceful occupation of the premises, and full accountability for the alleged destruction.
