Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that his 2012 breakout hit, Dami Duro, was reportedly used as a ringtone by Nigeria’s then-president, Goodluck Jonathan.
Speaking during an interview on Power 105.1 FM in the U.S., Davido explained how the song’s massive success helped change his father’s initial disapproval of his music career.
“My dad was strongly against me doing music at first,” he said. “He even used the police and army to shut down my shows and arrest promoters. But when Dami Duro blew up—and someone told me it was even the President’s ringtone—people started convincing him to support me.”
Davido shared that he later agreed to return to school, and over time, his relationship with his father transformed. “Now, we’re best friends. He comes to my shows, supports my business, and we talk about everything,” he added.
