Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, former Political Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, has criticized the current administration, alleging that it is compromising Nigeria’s sovereignty and aligning excessively with the United States.
Speaking during a Friday appearance on ARISE News, Baba-Ahmed claimed that key elements of Nigeria’s independence have effectively been ceded to Washington under the present leadership.
He argued that recent developments suggest Nigeria is being diminished on the global stage and internally divided, warning that the country risks losing its standing as an independent nation if the trend continues.
The former presidential adviser also faulted what he described as external pressures and policy demands allegedly directed at Nigeria, insisting that such conditions should not be accepted without scrutiny. He maintained that the Federal Government must firmly assert Nigeria’s autonomy in its dealings with foreign powers.
According to Baba-Ahmed, the President should make it clear to the United States that while diplomatic relations are important, there must be clearly defined boundaries that respect Nigeria’s status as a sovereign state.
He stressed the need for transparency in international agreements and urged the administration to prioritize national interest in all foreign engagements.
