The senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has appealed to leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to set aside their differences and work towards reconciliation following the recent judgement of the Court of Appeal on the party’s national convention.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the lawmaker said the court’s decision should serve as an opportunity for the party to restore unity, strengthen its internal framework, and reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpoti-Uduaghan emphasised that the PDP must move beyond prolonged legal disputes and instead channel its efforts into rebuilding the party and promoting harmony among its members.
According to her, the ruling should be respected as part of the democratic process, adding that the party’s focus must now shift from litigation to reconciliation.
“The Court of Appeal has delivered its judgement, and as a party that upholds the rule of law, our priority should now be reconciliation and rebuilding. Our strength lies in unity, shared purpose, and the commitment to provide Nigerians with credible leadership,” she stated.
The senator cautioned that continued internal legal battles could undermine the political aspirations of party members preparing to contest elections on the PDP platform.
She noted that political parties serve as platforms for citizens who aspire to hold public office and contribute to national development, stressing that internal conflicts among party leaders should not jeopardise those ambitions.
“Our members at the grassroots — those aspiring to serve in State Houses of Assembly, the House of Representatives, the Senate, governorship positions, and even the presidency — should not suffer because of prolonged disagreements among party leaders,” she said.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also urged party leaders to demonstrate maturity, statesmanship, and readiness to compromise in resolving the issues affecting the party.
“At times like this, leadership requires that we rise above personal interests and work for the greater good of both the party and the nation,” she added.
She further called on party stakeholders to begin preparations for a credible and inclusive national convention that would fully comply with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to her, the PDP must safeguard its legacy as one of Nigeria’s major political parties by strengthening unity within its ranks.
“This is the moment for us to come together, engage constructively, and organise a national convention that reflects the unity, inclusiveness, and democratic values of our party. Nigerians are watching, and we must show that the PDP remains capable of providing the leadership the country needs,” she said.
The senator reaffirmed her commitment to the unity and progress of the party and encouraged members across the country to remain hopeful as the PDP prepares for future political contests.
