At least 20 African Ministers of Tourism are set to converge in Abuja for the 68th United Nations Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) meeting, slated for June 11–13, 2025.
The high-level event, themed “Harnessing Technological Solutions (AI) for the Future of African Tourism: Innovations, Growth, and Digital Transformation in Tourism”, will bring together key stakeholders, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore innovative approaches to developing Africa’s tourism sector.
Ms. Elscia Grandcourt, Director of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa, revealed that over 300 delegates are expected to attend. She shared the details during a courtesy visit to Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa.
Grandcourt, accompanied by Programme Officer Ms. Zines Zimmal, noted that representatives from international organizations and the African Union’s Commissioner for Tourism would also participate.
“Typically, such events host between 300 and 350 delegates,” Grandcourt explained. “We’re expecting a broad mix of participants, including heads of regional blocs, international delegations, and local stakeholders.”
She emphasized the importance of local inclusion, stating that a technical workshop will be held alongside the main event to ensure local professionals benefit directly from the gathering.
