Abia Government Dismisses PDP’s “Shadow Government” Claims as Unconstitutional

Abia State government has said that there is no existence of anything called “Shadow Government” in the State, warning the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against using the term.

The Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma gave the warning while responding to recent criticism of Abia’s 2025 Q2 financial report credited to the “PDP Shadow Government”.

He said that the Shadow Government does not exist in a presidential system of government and therefore should not be formed or used by the PDP to “cause nuisance” in Abia.

“Firstly, a Shadow government does not exist in a Presidential System of Government.

“Abia State government had warned against this in 2024 when the idea of the so-called Shadow government was first conceived by the PDP.

“The government subsequently took the necessary actions to nip their activities in the bud.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria restated this recently and warned against its formation by anyone anywhere, hence any attempt by the Abia State PDP to bring it up again would attract a more fierce response from the government this time around”, Ekeoma said.

According to the Abia Governor’s Special Adviser, a political party has all the institutional organs to function responsibly as provided in the Constitution of Nigeria and the Electoral Act, and pursue its goals as an apposition party without becoming a nuisance to the people.

Quoting a Debt Management Office’s report, Ekeoma said that the present administration in the state had reduced the debt profile of the state, adding that any external debt exposure of the State was incurred during previous administrations.
