Reactions have continued to trail reports that the Federal Government earmarked about ₦8.05 billion for church- and mosque-related projects in the 2026 Appropriation Act.

According to an analysis by public accountability organisation Tracka, approximately ₦1.91 billion was allocated to church-related projects, while ₦6.14 billion was set aside for mosque-related projects.

The development had earlier drawn criticism from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who questioned the rationale behind allocating such a large sum to religious projects while many Nigerians continue to face economic hardship.

Reacting to the report, activist Aisha Yesufu questioned why public funds meant for critical sectors were being directed toward religious projects.

She argued that government resources should prioritise areas such as education rather than funding churches and mosques.

Also commenting, Arise TV Morning Show host Rufai Oseni alleged that the allocations were inserted into the budget for personal gain, questioning the locations selected for the projects and criticising lawmakers over the appropriations.

The budget allocations have continued to generate debate on social media, with many Nigerians calling for greater transparency and accountability in public spending.
